Super Bowl Sunday ranks as one of the most dangerous times of the year for drunk driving-related deaths. According to a recent article by MADD, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 43 percent of traffic fatalities were caused by drunk driving on Super Bowl Sunday and the following Monday in 2012, as compared to the 31 percent average for other days of the year.
Couple that with a recent report by the Automobile Club of Southern California that drunk driving-related car crashes increased 75 percent on Super Bowl Sunday, and an increased police response to drunk driving is expected.

Police departments throughout the Valley are increasing patrols this week for all Super Bowl related activities, and officers with special badges marked by the Super Bowl logo have been designated to keep these areas safe.
